Products & Technology

Below are some common questions about our smart home technology

What smart home technology does Arklyfe primarily use?

Arklyfe specializes in Matter-over-Thread architecture. This approach prioritizes local control, ultra-law latency, and exceptional reliability, ensuring your system remains future-proof without being locked into a single brand.

What is Matter and why is it important?

Matter is the industry-unifying communication standard backed by global giants like Apple, Google, and Amazon. It ensures that smart devices from different manufacturers can speak the same language and work together seamlessly within a single ecosystem.

What is Thread and how does it work with Matter?

Thread is a high-performance, low-power mesh network designed specifically for smart homes. While Matter acts as the language, Thread serves as the secure and fast highway that allows messages to travel between devices without relying on a central router for every move.

Why do you recommend Matter-over-Thread instead of Wi-Fi or Zigbee?
  • Vs. Wi-Fi: Thread is more power-efficient and won’ congest your home
network or slow down your internet speeds.
  • Vs. Zigbee: Matter-over-Thread offers superior cross-brand compatibility and
does not require proprietary, brand-specific hubs.
  • The Advantage: It combines the stability of a local wired-like connection with
the flexibility of modern wireless technology.
Do Matter-over-Thread systems require a hub?

A Thread Border Router is required to connect your Thread network to the internet and other devices. The benefit is that many devices you may already own —such as an Apple TV 4K HomePod (2nd Gen), or certain Google Nest hubs— already function as Thread Border Routers.

Can I mix Matter devices with other protocols?

Yes. Through compatible smart home controllers, Arklyfe can integrate Matter devices with existing systems. However, for the most stable and "headache-free" experience, we always recommend a native Matter-over-Thread setup as the primary foundation.

How do I know if a device is Matter-compatible?

Look for the official "Matter" logo on the product packaging. Furthermore, every component used in an Arklyfe design undergoes rigorous internal testing to ensure it meets our standards for response time and reliability.

Is Matter-over-Thread secure?

Highly secure. Matter utilizes military-grade encryption for all communications. By keeping device-to-device talk local to your home, it significantly reduces the risks associated with cloud-based hacks and data breaches.

Is Matter future-proof?

Absolutely. Matter is the first time the entire tech industry has agreed on a single standard. With the world’ largest tech companies committed to its development, Matter is currently the most sustainable and long-term smart home investment available.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Your home remains smart. Because Matter-over-Thread and KNX operate locally, your scheduled automations, sensors, and switches will continue to function normally. You only lose remote smartphone access and cloud-dependent voice assistants until the internet is restored.

Are smart home systems secure?

Security is our priority. By focusing on local automation and using industrystandard encryption (AES-128), we minimize cloud dependency, keeping your data and home activity private and secure within your own network.

Does Arklyfe support voice control?

Absolutely. Our systems are designed to integrate seamlessly with leading platforms like Apple Home (Siri), Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa, allowing for effortless hands-free control.

Can I take my smart home system with me if I move?

Wireless systems (like Matter-over-Thread) are modular and can be relocated to a new property. Wired systems (like KNX) are integrated into the building’ infrastructure and are designed to add long-term value to the property itself.

How do I know if a device is compatible with my system?

Compatibility is verified during our initial design phase. We strictly select certified devices to ensure your system remains stable, responsive, and secure as you add more devices over time.

Can smart home systems help save energy?

Yes. Hy automatically adjusting blinds to manage solar heat and ensuring lights and climate control are only active when needed, a well-designed smart home significantly reduces unnecessary energy consumption and utility costs.

Smart Home Standards & Compatibility

What is the difference between KNX and Matter?

Arklyfe offers both KNX and Matter-over-Thread solutions, each designed for different needs. KNX is a mature, hardwired building automation standard ideal for new builds, large projects, and commercial-grade installations requiring maximum reliability. Matter-over-Thread is a wireless, modular solution that is easier to retrofit and integrates with Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa out of the box. Both systems can coexist in the same property — for example, KNX handling core lighting and HVAC while Matter handles retrofit additions. Our team can help you choose the right approach for your project.

What is KNX and who is it for?

KNX is the world’s leading open standard for building automation, widely used in premium residential and commercial projects across Australia and Europe. It is a hardwired system that offers the highest level of reliability, integration depth, and long-term stability. KNX is best suited for new home builds, major renovations, or commercial fit-outs where the infrastructure can be planned from the ground up with your builder or certified installer.

Are Arklyfe products SAA certified?

Yes. Key Arklyfe products, including our StellarTrack smart switches and ARK-308 presence sensors, carry SAA certification — the Australian standard for electrical safety. This means they are approved for installation in Australian homes and meet the electrical safety requirements set by the ACCC (Australian Competition & Consumer Commission). Always check individual product pages for certification details, as requirements vary by product type.

Return & Refund

Below are some common questions about return & refund policies

How do I return a product?

Please contact us at info@arklyfe.com.au with:

  • Order number
  • Photos or videos of the issue (if applicable)
  • Reason for return

Our team will guide you through the next steps.

Are there any items that cannot be returned?

The following are non-returnable:

  • Custom-made curtains & blinds
  • Products cut to size
  • Installed smart home devices
  • Opened or used motorised products (unless faulty)

Who is responsible for return shipping costs?
  • Faulty or Damaged Items: In the event that a product is confirmed to be faulty or does not meet Australian Consumer Law guarantees, Arklyfe will bear all reasonable return shipping and collection costs.
  • Change-of-Mind Returns: For eligible standard products (unopened and
uninstalled), the customer is responsible for all costs associated with returning the item to our designated warehouse.
Am I eligible to exchange an item instead of receiving a refund?
  • Standard Products: Exchanges are permitted for standard, unopened, and uninstalled hardware within 30 days of delivery, subject to stock availability.
  • Custom-Made Solutions: Due to the bespoke nature of our curtains, blinds, and tracks, these items are ineligible for exchange unless a manufacturing defect is identified or specifications deviate from the agreed-upon order caused by Arklyfe.
  • KNX & Wired Systems: For complex wired systems, we prioritize technical adjustment, repair, or component replacement to ensure full system functionality rather than a direct exchange of the entire system.
Are products eligible for return once opened or used?
  • Standard Smart Devices: For change-of-mind reasons, we only accept
returns for items that are unopened, unused, and in their original, sealed
packaging. Once the seal is broken or the device has been
installed/configured, it is no longer eligible for return unless a technical fault is confirmed.
  • Custom-Made & Installed Items: Any products that have been custom-sized (e.g., cut fabrics, custom tracks) or already installed in your premises are strictly non-returnable once opened or used, except in cases of manufacturing defects or failure to meet consumer guarantees under the
    Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
