Smart Switches FAQ

Does the smart light switch still work like a normal wall switch?

Yes. You can always turn the light on or off manually at the wall. Smart control adds convenience, but it does not replace normal everyday switch control. This means family members, guests and children can use it without needing an app or voice command.

Can one switch be added to more than one smart home platform?

Matter supports multi-platform control in many setups. For example, a household may use Apple Home as the main platform while also allowing another family member to access selected devices through another compatible Matter ecosystem. The final setup depends on the household's chosen platforms, hubs and account permissions.

Will the switch still work if my internet goes down?

Yes, basic manual control at the wall will still work. For compatible local Matter and Thread setups, many local automations and device controls can continue operating inside the home even when the internet is unavailable. However, remote access, cloud-based voice services and some notifications may be unavailable until the internet connection returns.

Do I need a neutral wire?

Many smart switches require a neutral wire at the switch location. For new builds and renovations, we strongly recommend planning neutral wiring at every switch point during rough-in. This gives greater flexibility for smart switches, sensors, future upgrades and control systems. For existing homes, an electrician can inspect the wall box and confirm whether a neutral wire is available.
