Matter is a smart home interoperability standard backed by Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung. Matter can run over Thread, Wi-Fi or Ethernet; Thread is a low-power mesh network. For a whole-home Matter over Thread setup, use a compatible Matter controller and a Thread border router. Some hubs combine both roles. Supported local controls can continue during an internet outage while the home network, controller and devices remain powered and connected; cloud-dependent features may be unavailable.

Platform Compatibility
Compatibility depends on the exact product, device type, supported features and platform software. For a whole-home Matter over Thread setup, use a compatible Matter controller for your chosen platform and a Thread border router; some hubs combine both roles.
Matter multi-admin can let supported devices work with more than one ecosystem after the required pairing or sharing setup. A Thread border router does not automatically add devices to every app.

- Google Home: use a compatible Google Home Matter hub and Thread border router. Check the exact hub model, as not every Google or Nest hub includes Thread.
