Smart locks in Australia: how to choose

Short answer: Arklyfe sells 13 smart locks, from AU$148 for a Matter gate lock to AU$823 for a 3D face-recognition lock with a video intercom. If you use Apple Home or another Matter platform, choose one of the four JINK Matter over Thread locks. If you want to see and talk to visitors, choose a video intercom lock (M30, K11, M20, M17 or JINK Lock Pro). If you simply want keyless entry by fingerprint and PIN, the K7 and K8 start at AU$269. For door-fit checks, batteries, Apple Home setup and rental rules, read our smart lock buyer's guide.

Which smart locks work with Apple Home?

The JINK P8, Lock Pro, Lock Air and Lock N400 use Matter over Thread, so they can be added to Apple Home and other Matter platforms. You need a Thread border router and Matter controller, such as an Apple HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K for Apple Home. The M-series, K11 and TTS-06 use the Tuya app instead. See our guide to setting up Apple Home with Matter over Thread.

Will it fit my door?

Check before you buy. Fit depends on door thickness and material, the existing lock and mortise, the backset, existing holes and which way the door opens. For example, our video intercom locks list a 45–120 mm door thickness and a 6068/6085 mortise. Specifications vary by selected model; have a qualified installer confirm the exact model and door before ordering. Do not apply one model’s measurements to another. Send us photos of your door, the existing lock and the door edge and we will confirm which locks fit. Apartment entry doors may be fire-rated and need body corporate approval, so check first.

Installation in Melbourne

Arklyfe ships smart locks Australia-wide and installs them across Melbourne, often alongside smart switches, video intercoms and motorised curtains. See our smart home installation service, book a free consultation or call 1300 306 739.

Smart Locks FAQ

What happens if the battery goes flat?

Smart locks are designed to provide low-battery warnings before the battery is fully depleted. Depending on the model, you may receive audible low-battery reminders, app notifications, on-screen battery warnings or voice prompts. If the battery is fully depleted, supported models may offer an external emergency power port and a mechanical key override.

Is face recognition safe to use?

Face recognition can provide quick, hands-free access, especially when arriving home with bags, children or groceries. However, the suitability of face recognition depends on the lock's technology, installation height, lighting conditions and the location of the door. For the strongest everyday setup, we recommend registering more than one access method, such as fingerprint, PIN code, card or mechanical key backup. This ensures you still have access if one method is less convenient in a particular situation.

Will it fit my existing door?

This needs to be checked before purchase. Smart lock compatibility depends on door thickness, door material, existing lock type, backset measurement, existing drill holes and handle position, door frame and strike plate condition, and whether the door opens inward or outward.

Not sure which smart lock is right for your door?

Send Arklyfe clear photos of your entry door, existing lock and door edge, together with your preferred access methods. We can help assess door compatibility, weather exposure, installation requirements, access control needs and smart home integration before recommending the right solution.

Is the lock suitable for apartments?

Yes, but apartment installation requires extra checks. Before installation, we need to confirm whether the apartment door is fire-rated, building management or owners corporation requirements, existing lock and door hardware, emergency egress requirements, and whether the selected lock is appropriate for the building's security standards. Do not replace locks on a fire-rated apartment entry door without confirming the required hardware and approval pathway first.

Which smart locks work with Apple Home?

The JINK Lock Air, JINK Door Lock P8, JINK Lock Pro and JINK Lock N400 gate lock use Matter over Thread, so they can be added to Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa. You need a Matter controller with a Thread border router, such as an Apple HomePod mini or a compatible Apple TV 4K. Arklyfe ships smart locks Australia-wide; shipping is free on orders of AU$199 or more.
